Abstract

This article aims to outline brief considerations on the relevance of the right to suffrage through the exercise of the vote, in view of the contemporary Brazilian reality, in times of economic-financial crisis, fierce political polarization and post-pandemic consequences. It is necessary to understand suffrage, which is not just a mere obligation, but a right guaranteed to all, under the terms of the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil of 1988. It is proposed to reflect on the effectiveness of mandatory voting in terms of effective citizenship, despite the indispensability of measures to protect health and safety.
